When picking a liveaboard in Raja Ampat, think about your budget, the level of comfort you want, and the type of itinerary. Some boats focus on luxury and small groups, others are more affordable with a larger number of guests.

Most trips last 7 to 10 nights, with routes designed around either the north or south of Raja Ampat.
Northern itineraries include Dampier Strait, Kawe and the spectacular islands of Wayag.
Southern itineraries head towards Misool, famous for its soft corals, caves and manta rays.
Longer trips sometimes combine Misool, Dampier Strait and Wayag in a single journey.
Itineraries normally start and finish in Sorong, with some departures from Waisai. Along the way you’ll enjoy not just diving, but also snorkeling, kayaking, and island excursions.
You can dive in Raja Ampat all year, but the best season is from October to April, when the seas are calm and manta encounters are more frequent. From July to September, southern Raja Ampat (Misool) can be exposed to strong winds, and many liveaboards move to Komodo during these months.
Most liveaboards ask for a minimum of Advanced Open Water certification and around 30–50 logged dives, as conditions can include strong currents. Some boats welcome beginners if accompanied by an experienced buddy, but if you’ve only just started diving, a resort in Raja Ampat may be a better choice until you build confidence underwater.
Trips here are generally more expensive than in Komodo because of the remote location and high logistics costs.
