At Karang Travel we consider a 3 days 2 nights tour long enough to see all the most important spots of Tanjung Puting National Park and enjoy a few encounters with orangutans. However, other tour durations are available, please get in touch for a personalised package or more details.
The guide will pick you up at Pankalanbun airport and after a 20 minutes car ride to the village of Kumai you will board your boat.
The boat will sail up the river Sekonyer where you will start enjoying the deep jungle of Borneo and its fauna.
In the afternoon you will visit the station Tanjung Harapan, where orangutans are fed to support their adaptation to the wild.
In the evening you will be able to see the monkeys around the forest and do a night walk through the jungle to search for night animals and glowing mushrooms.
After waking up with the sounds of the jungle, you'll visit the station of Pondok Tanggui to see some more orangutans.
The boat will continue cruising towards the "black river" where sometimes you can spot crocodiles and then stop on Camp Leaky, where orangutans gather in the afternoon to feed.
The boat will stop for the night in the mangrove forest, where you can see lots of fireflies at night.
In the morning the boat will start the way back, out of the jungle and returning to Kumai village. You will have time to relax a little or check some souvenir stores nearby before going back to the airport to catch your flight on the same day.
The best time to see orangutans and have less chances of rain are from april to october.
Since this tour takes part inside the jungle, don't forget to bring some long trousers and shirts, comfortable walking or trekking shoes, waterproof raincoat and mosquito repellent.
Pangkalan Bun has its own airport, Iskandar Airport (Bandar Udara Internasional Iskandar), which offers flights daily to and from Jakarta. Those are convenient since they arrive to Pankalanbun early morning and leave morning or afternoon for the return to Jakarta.
